I went to school at Trona High School class of 1959. Worked at Pauls Market. I liked the town the way it was although it was that way. I liked the classmates also. I liked to tease phil strout. hahaha. He married Judy Hill. I travel back to Trona every year. There was a time I owned 4 houses down there. I lived in Washington and was to far away to run them. I am retired now, since 1992. I like the movie also "JUST ADD WATER" that grocery store still looks the same just no Danny Devito. I loved to swim at Valley Wells. I would be willing to share any memories or pictures with any one inquiring feel free to do so.

Comments: I lived in Ridgecrest as a child from 1973 to 1980. My father worked on the base as a government civilian employee. He worked at the communications site that previously was a rocket/missle launch next to "B" Mountian. We lived in Wherry Housing, a private home in the "windy acres" area and the last place was on the base. I attended pierce elementary, murray elementary, and murray middle through 9th grade (the first year they changed the HS from 4yr to 3 yr). My parents were divorced and my mother moved, with me and my brothers to San Antonio, TX.
I have many memories of Ridgecrest. Some good, some not so good.
Thanks for hosting this website. I will be looking over everything for awhile. see if I cant help with something? Maybe just trying to find my future looking back on my past? My father died several years past and my mother lives in TN. Brothers are in IN and VA, and here I sit in Alaska.
I still have fond memories of a simpler time, when Santa Claus came to visit our home and deliver presents in windy acres. Seems like yesterday we were all together at Hobo Joes eating dinner, or at Johns Pizza for another birthday party, and at the marquee theater on the main road standing in line for Star Wars. The drive in theatre on the way out to Inyokern was always a treat too. Little league games on the bases, the taste of snow cones and root beer, skateboards and modify another bike for a dirt desert track, lizard/snake hunting, and frying egg on side walk contest, grand opening of mcdonalds and burger king. my memories sound mixed up sorry.
I do appreciate the trip back to ridgecrest, best to you!

1: @ Frank Grober, note the spelling of my surname. Shame on you!
2. The issue of LIFE MAGAZINE that features China Lake and the incipient Michaelson Laboratory is dated February 16, 1948 and sold for 15 cents at that time.
3. I just recently watched a western that was filmed during the 1950's in and around the IWV. It's titled TENSION AT TABLE ROCK and stars Dorothy Malone. You note scenes that were taken near the old Robbers Roost Cafe (was it Armstead's or Harts Place???). Heading northbound of Hwy 14 and looking to the east (Right) toward Black Mountain and the petrified forest that lies at its base, you'll see some old structures located about a quarter mile from the highway and almost hidden by a berm. That's where some of the movie was filmed. Also in one of the scenes you'll also see far in the distance the dry lake bed that's named China Lake itself but I don't recall seeing any military structures in that scene.
From the 1920's thru the 1940's my grandfather prospected that entire area - a far cry from the desert parties that speckled the area from time to time.

Comments: I arrived in Ridgecrest in the 5th grade, 1967. My teacher was Mr. Warren, I can't recall the name of the school but it was on base. I lived in wherry housing. I graduated from Burroughs in 1977 and stayed until 1979 before moving out of town. I worked at Hamels Funiture while attending high school my boss then was John Wilson. Ridgecrest at the time I was there was a small town. I used to hitch hike all over town as a 10 year old and never thought a thing about it. I consider Ridgecrest my home town. It's where I went to school, learned how to drive, rode dirt bikes and made life long friends. I miss it indeed.
