I stumbled across this website while looking for photos of local points of interest. I moved to Ridgecrest with my USN husband in 1999. Funny thing how this desert has captured my heart, soul and mind. I grew up in a transient family and have never felt I belonged to any one geographical area. Then I found Ridgecrest.
I don't know what the future will hold for me, but as far as I'm concerned, Ridgecrest will always be considered to be home.
Thank you for this website and the stores within. I love to read the history of this place and the thoughts of those that grew up here.

I hitchhiked into Inyokern in 1946, fresh out of the army I was surprised the base hired me. I was 18 years old and out to get mine. I worked at just about all the labs. Eventually I found a place in the Safety Dept. I built little houses in Ridgecrest and rented trailers all over. All the pictures you show brings back memories good and bad. You have a great site. Are you willing to help with stories? I have no pictures or stories to share except to say that of all the places that we have been stationed, I found Ridgecrest to be the most friendliest and a good place to raise a family.
