Hello, Just checked your website today and found a lot of memories from my past. My family goes way back
in your area when it was called Crumville. Bowman Road is named after my grandfather who raised alfalfa there, Downs Street is named after my father, who was the Judge in Trona for over 20 years. I was born and raised in Trona, but went to Ridgecrest a lot. My Dad would be assigned quite frequently to sit on the bench of the Ridgecrest courthouse. I married one of those sailors that was stationed at China Lake, we just celebrated 43 years together. Keep up the good work on your website.

After my time for Uncle Sam in the Navy (I was never in Ridgecrest), I moved to Ridgecrest in 1970 to start my seven-year stint working as Program Director and DJ on KLOA 1240 radio as "Wes Owens," having worked about every shift there was, eventually. Coming from temperate San Diego, at first I wondered why I had moved to this "stinking desert." But as time went by, I began to very much appreciate the seasonal changes, subtle and not-so-subtle: things like the beautiful carpet of delicate wildflowers in early spring, and sudden summer thunderstorms--even just enough snow some winters to offer a magical wonderland and enough fun for a few days, and, of course, the marvels of a good swamp cooler! I saw Ridgecrest undergo lots of growing pains and changes in those seven years, and I look back fondly on some exciting moments in my profession, as well as wonderful times with great friends. I'm still in touch with a few after all these years.

My home is once again San Diego, where I am married, have two sons, and work as audio technician and announcer with KUSI-TV, San Diego, producing all the audio, music, and sound effects for our KUSI Morning News show, and other programing, as well.

Nice web site! I had submitted some of my stories before, but they didn't seem to make it to your website.

Great Web site: I will write about my late Father in Law Dr Thomas A. Drummond and my late wife Bonnie Brady Nee Drummond at other time.
