We  went to China Lake/Ridgecrest in 1958. My husband was stationed at N.O.T.S. We lived on Inyokern Road at the Twin Palms Motel in an effency apt. for a while, then got an apt. in one of the old pre-fabs on the back side of the base. Later moved to Independence St. which was a palace after the pre-fabs!! I worked at the base beauty shop. Only recall two of the ladies I worked with, Camillia and Eileen. While working there acqired many friends both civillian and military. Dr. Michaelson's wife was one I recall most of all. She became a true friend and mentor to me...we were there when one of her sons exploded the gun shell injuring himself badly.Our son was born at the dispensary there on the base,(1959) (Dr. M.O. Greeney was the my doctor). We went back in 1969 so my son could see his 'first home'. Hardly recognized the place. Our house was still there but nothing looked as it did back in 1960 when we left. We enjoyed our years there, loved going thru Lake Isabella to Bakersfield and to Mt. Whitney, going to Hawthorn Nv. and just roaming in the hills and exploring the old towns and of course rock hounding!! My husband retired from the military with 40 years of continous service, but our years in Kern County remain the most memorable. Thanks for this site and the pictures that are posted. Pat has passed away. I have tried taking the site over but his system wont let me in to make the changes  and updates (pat) support describes it as a highly advanced site (which Im not)  that and work has not allowed  me the time for the past few months to sit and figuire it out  sorry , steve
