I still am enjoying reading all of the posts here. I remember alot of things when I just between 4 and 17 years old. Alot of the posts are from folks who were my two big Sisters Patsy Allen And Connie Allen's times and age so I can relate to these stories. My Dad George Allen used to cruise me all through the desert roads back in the very early 60's up until 1986 when he passed away down there and I moved out of the "pit" as people used to call it. I can add alot to these stories but I cant type worth a darn and so it's a real pain for me to do so. I rember seeing CHarlie Manson face to face up in the cayon above Ballarat. We were Chuckar hunting and all of his clan and him were hiding in an old house with small houses all around it. We were lucky he didn't kill us as we were miles from anything or anyone that day. Anyone remember the guy that used to sell fruits and veggies outside the front gate. He had one arm and the sleeve of his coat was tucked into his pocket. That was close to the Little Hamburger Hut by the Triangle sporting goods store where they sold Christmas Trees there for years. Man I could go on forever about the stories from there. Again, it sure has changed alot and it's not even the same place or even looks like the same place where I grew up.

It was an interesting place to work in the old days. I guess its best to remember the good times. I would like to thank a few of the good bosses I had Claude Brown, Carl Hall,  John Anderson and Milt Burford. I feel my last few years there at Echo range was the happiest.
I liked going on travel for the government in the old days I wore normal clothes with short sleeve T-shirts and no jacket when going to DC. In those days China Lake meant something. I think I retired after it passed its peak. I'm not sure if you can go to DC any more without wearing some sort of stupid clown suit with a tie. I am proud to say I never learned how to tie a tie.
One of the great advantages was the nearness of nature you could go fishing hunting and shooting near bye.
The schools there are way ahead of Texas. As nice as Texas is the education my kids got in Ridgecrest was why ahead of what the kids here get for schooling. Its to bad retired engineers can't teach math in school in this country instead we have to keep the kids dumbed down. I fear the next generation of engineers at least from Texas will be at a great disadvantage if we ever have a big war.
I don't think I would ever go back unless Eastern Kern County is annexed by the great state of Nevada.

I still enjoy looking over this sight from time to time. It still seems to reveal things and memories I have forgotten about. I have alot of memories from my 29 years in the IWV.  I still remember seeing Seldom Seen Slim hitchhiking when I was just a little kid. Sure was a great place to grow up during the prime years there but man has it changed since I left in 1987. I hear that my Dad George is still a fishing legend there and is talked about alot around the fire.
