Sorry the master of this sight has gone to his reward. Did a wonderful job of the history of the "base". I'm glad to have been lucky enough to have known all the great kids at Burrough High. Had some great teachers also.

Are you willing to help with stories? yes
Comments: Left Ridgecrest at 18, couldn't wait to leave. Immediately missed being home!! After 9/11, my husband. who was in the Navy. had his sea time extended. I said, "I am just going to move home until he's out of the Navy so I am around friends and family, then back to San Diego for us." Seven years later, my husband is retired from the Navy, and my husband and two sons and I would never dream of packing up and leaving. This little town is home for us. The comfort and simplicity after living in the city....no where else is like it. I still hang out with friends from grade school and that I graduated with, and now our kids go to school together.

Comments: Our family (Jim, Lorinda, Ronelle & Tom) moved to Trona in 1967 and left in 1979. Deanna was born during the 1970 strike.
We had a house built at 14044 Hemlock by Jim Haughton around 1968. My first job was in the Plant Technical Service as a chemist under Joe Sonia. Then as a process engineer under Dr Hirsch. I was also the process engineer and assistant superintendent in the Borax plant, then in the concentration section and then as the superintendent of the Potash plant.
I was a member of the Southern Inyo Search and Rescue squad with Wendel and Vi Swan, Doc Cole, Ernie Semiski (sp), Al Nunley, Jim Rodosevitch, Jack Walker, etc. The most interesting mission was when Al Nunley and I (and three other members) used our 4x4 vehicles to take two members of the Inyo Sheriff's swat team up Surprise Canyon to Panament City in the middle of the night to investigate the murder of the hippie guru. When we got there we found a bunch of hippies with cross scars on their foreheads (Charlie Manson's followers) and a body. Then we looked for the shooter. This took place the day of the dedication of the new plant. I think it was around 1977.
This mission was written up in the Trona Argonaut but I have not been able to find it. Our night rescue of Tony Batista from Great Falls can be found in the China Lake Mountain Rescue Group's website in the 1975 notes section.
We have lived in Eagle River, Alaska for the past 27 years. Jim Mitchell

Comments: My grandparents, Ann and John Pillott ran Vallely Wells for about 30 years, and my grandma made the best tacos and burgers out there, everyone would come out there to picnic!! I remember the pool tables/ jukebox/ ping pong/ renting innnertubes. Swim lessons every summer! Huge ice cream cones out of the deep freeze, which i used to get into all the time. The squeaky swings and teeter toters. Grandma shot a bobcat out there a long time ago. She wanted to make some extra money and asked the plant if she could have a snack bar out there. A lot of memories from Valley Wells!!
