Where do you live now? City of San Fernando

How many years were you in the desert? early 80's, I believe

Are you willing to help with pictures? Have only one or two

Are you willing to help with stories? Possibly

Comments:
My friends and I would spend July 4 and other holidays at a bungalow up near the intersection of Highway 14 and what I guess is Inyokern Road or Avenue. We've been told our fireworks could be seen from Ridgecrest. Other than that we'd hang out at the shack and roam the desert, stopping in town for supplies. I introduced myself once to the man who ran a gas station (I believe it was a Union 76) and the local paper. That was back in my own newspapering days.

I always loved the area and fancied moving there someday. There has been awhile since I was there, or did any newspapering. Anyone up there need a reporter? Or parking lot attendant?

Liz, are you the one who reads all these.  Your husband, Gary, co-authored my first real academic paper for the Journal of the Optical Society of America.  But he did all the real writing.  He did the theory and I made the measurements and made the interferometer work.

I sure do miss the desert.  I loved watching the mountains from my back porch north of Inyokern, the colors changed the mountain silhouette in that clear, crisp air as the sun went down and the temperature cooled on a beautiful autumn day.

Of course having the wind pick up sand was no fun, but when it was still you could see forever.

This site takes me back to great times and great places...great memories. I have been back to what I consider 'home' on more than one occasion. Each time wishing I could stay longer. I greatly appreciate my friends (John P, Troy I, Mike P to name a few) and their hospitality each time I visit. For those who come to this site to reminisce, and have thoughts of taking your kids home to the desert some day, I say...DO IT! I took mine a number of years ago when they were in their middle teens. Being Navy brats themselves, they have seen a lot of places in their (relatively) short lives and the desert easily ranks in the top 5 of best places they have ever been. They still talk of it today...more than Disney World, Living on the Gulf Coast, Six Flags Over Texas, and Sea World combined. Thanks, Pat. Your work here will not be forgotten.
