I went to my 35 year class reunion for the class of 1973. October 10-14. It was something to see old friends. Then Drove up to Barstow and spent the day visiting with Mother, Irene, sister, Theresa Goldstrand (Bork) , and brother, Joseph. I'm going to visit Inyokern in Feb 2009 for Mothers Birthday. I hope I may see friends there too. I do enjoy that Desert especially in February.

Comments: I found this site yesterday and read it through. Started reading from the beginning of the guestbook entries looking for names I knew. So far in those first 36 pages I've discovered that what I thought was "The Porthole" restaurant and bar, was actually there. I didn't know if I'd been thinking of a place in CT or CA. My mom worked there and I ate a LOT of filet of Sole dinners there. She also worked at Papalardos. I also read mention of a Midget race track. On the memories site I had not seen any mention of racing, but I was going to say that there was a race track on Inyokern Road. My sister, Barbara, was once a trophy girl (at 15) at a jalopy race there and got to kiss the winner. I'm going to enter more after reading more of the guestbook entries. So far the only name I recognize, and I've seen it often, both here and on the main site, is Zurn. Must have been a large family. I went to school with Dick in 1949-1951. Others I'm looking for that were in my class are (probably mostly misspelled) James Fagnant, James Frerkas, Louie Shantler, David Schoolcraft, guy with the last name Mcgilvray, Roy Brown, Lavelle Bayer, Pat Harvey, Jackie Pruitt, girl named Buetel. We would have been the class of 1954, which is currently missing from this site. If you know more names or have a classbook of that year, please submit it. I left in the summer of 1951, and don't know if any of these names actually made it to 1954 at Burroughs.
Great site, more later. Paul

Just passing through. I spent 4 days at China Lake on TDY last month and was perusing the Internet to learn a little something about the history of the area when I stumbled upon your website. Great site! I especially enjoyed the pamphlet on the Upper Mohave Desert and the information on your nostalgia page. A Desert Rat's Prayer launched me into a sidebar search of information about life in 1899. Finally, I really got a kick out of the posts made my some of women regarding the local Creepy Crawlies. I didn't have time to read about the snakes. I plan to visit the site again to learn about them. Our host range rat during my visit to China Lake told me about the Majave Green, which I had never heard of. I've got to come back to learn more about that green devil. Anyway, thanks for the personal insight into life that is far different from what I accustomed to, nestled here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Tim

Comments: Would dig getting some detailed photos of the Drawing Room and the Bamboo Club if anyone has any. I am doing a series of drawings, and R/C Blv figures heavily into them. Hope everyone enjoys this site, it's cool to see. I was class of 1985, and if anyone wants to get in touch, feel free. Missing Don Walker, and Kathy Spindler, may they be at rest. Especially missing my stepdad Ron F Dettling. I am rolling his old '50 GMC with his ashes in the dash...keepin' him on the road. Life is good, love the Bay Area..and I try to visit R/C a couple of times a year. It has changed so much. I do miss the old haunts, Bauer's, The Drawing Room, Pizza Villa, Trader May's, Boog's Place...weird to see downtown so shabby. Someone needs to get that northern corner of R/c-C/L blvs sorted out...just a sad mess. Thanks for having this site, it's a sweet thing.
