I remember going into work at the ACE Plant during start up in 1989/1990. My rideshare group stopped at the Circle K to get some grub on the way into work and I noticed the stack light was off. That told me the plant was down/black so I got on the pay phone and called the control room. I informed them I was 'Corporal Brunswick' from the FAA and I needed to know WHY THE STACK LIGHTS WERE OUT!!! I screamed at the board operator 'Dan the Man' (aka Dipsh** Dan, Danimal, amongst other unprintable names) that I was Corporal Brunswick of the FAA and that I had aircraft in flight in the area!!! I went on to tell Dan that these stack light were imperative to safe flight operations and that we were operating in a critical manner without these lights in operation. I was screaming orders out for Dan to GET THOSE LIGHTS BACK ON ASAP along with other harsh comments about how much danger he (as the control room operator) had placed MY pilots in without those (little blinking) lights in service. After a good five minute tongue lashing poor ole Dan was a babbling idiot. I slammed the pay phone down and me and my rideshare buddies went on into the plant. One of the start up engineers from Black & Veetch was sitting in the control room as we walked in and he came right out and said "THERE'S YOUR CORPORAL BRUNSWICK" pointing the finger right in my direction. Of course I looked behind me to see who he was pointing at in complete denial. This was almost a half hour AFTER the Brunswick call and Dan was STILL walking around babbling to himself about the call!! We dropped off our grub and went outside out of view and we were laughing so hard. MAN THAT WAS FUN AND FUNNY!!! The ACE Plant start up was like no other, I am sure, that these engineers had ever experienced. The crew I worked with were dubbed MOTH's ... Members Of The Hated. We had a good long run that I am sure is brought up in conversation still today. Hats off to the MOTH's ... Derek, Rick, Larry (later LOTH/Last of the Hated), Harold, and the Supervisor Ladd (later known as LOLOTH/Leader of Last of the Hated). Good times!

I was born and raised in San Diego.I joined the Marine Corps in 1969...I went to boot camp in San Dieogo, and was put into the Kern County Platoon that graduated in Sept 1969...Most of the members of my platoon were from Ridgecrest, I remember a Gary Tye, Mark Stephens,,,I visit the Sierras every year and as I pass the off ramp to Ridgecrest off Hwy 395, it brings back memories of my old friends...I was station at MCB 29 Palms, Ca...used to love the A & W Root Beer stand there, they had an item called the Bongo Burger, a burger with a patty, a hot  dog, chili and all the fixins....It is gone now... but what memories....I also went to Joshua Tree Nat'l Monument,,,hiked there it was awesome
