For years people told me that College would be the best experience of my life...Now that I am in college I definately have a different opinion. In my young life, I would have to say that my four years at Burroughs High School was the best experience of my life. Many members of my family have history at Burroughs as well, which is why I thought it would be nice to contribute some information to those of you who may have known my family. My father, John C. Martin attened Burroughs High School along with his siblings David Martin, Rodger Martin, Richard (Duke) Martin, Steve Martin, Paul Martin, Marion Martin, Drew Martin, and Elizabeth (Liz) Martin. My father currently resides in Las Vegas, Nv. He transferred the family business here a few years ago around the time I started college. My mother, Laura (Randle) Martin, also attened Burroughs High School along with her siblings, Karen Randle, Cheryl Randle and Gary Randle. My mother currently resides in Reno, Nv. where she has lived for nearly 15 years. I am the youngest of John and Laura's four children, Kevin (married to Siena Zurn), John Dale (J.D.) and Maia Martin. If you have any stories to share with me regarding any members of my family please email me at gina@cmartin.com Thank you, Regina Martin

What a neat site, a great trip down memory lane with lots of references to people and things I remember as well as others I don't...but probably should. I arrived at C/L the summer before the 2nd grade. The first thing I remember was the sign just inside the main gate that said, "What you see here, what you do here, what you hear here, when you leave here, let it stay here". The second thing I remember is the traffic circle; I'd never seen one before and I thought it was pretty neat. I think I asked my dad to "go around more times." I don't remember if he did. Probably not. My memory, whick leaks occasionally these days, tells me that the movies at the Station Theater were 12 cents in 1951 and for a year or two after, and that at that time there was no concession stand in the lobby. Also, movies were shown at 6:00 and 8:00 PM every night (you had to get in line again and pay another 12 cents if you want to see the second show), with matinees on the weekends (very popular!). China Lake was a great place to grow up and I think about it and the people there a lot. There's a lot worth remembering. Pat, I have a couple of high school yearbooks (even one from Jr. High at Burroughs). I also have a few B/W pictures from my Brownie camera. I don't currently have a scanner; how do I get them to you? Also, Pat, thanks for your work on this site; it's "nifty" and "keen".

I moved out there (to Wherry) in 1956 with my family, attended Monroe & Burroughs. Although I am now in Phoenix, 3 of my brothers are still there, and I get out there every now and then. I remember the good times we had, and even now, pay especial attention to the winter weather forecasts for "the lake". I wouldn't have traded my childhood for anything, & feel sorry (sorta) for those who didn't grow up there. I remember Mr. Brewer, Mr & Mrs Linebacker, The Fox family, Tiny's, Corny's, Mrs Roderuck (sp?), Mrs Merrick, to name a few.
