My folks, my sister and myself moved to the base into a brand new Hawthorne in 1947. No trees, grass or anything. Just roads, sand and lots of square "look-a-like" inline duplexes. Graduated with the 1953 class which had a wonderful 50th reunion last year which I was privileged to attend. I loved the desert and love this site. Thanks for all your hard work.

A friend emailed me about this site. Great job! My wife and I left Ridgecrest late 2004 to be nearer to family in Texas. Jennie taught at Richmond Elementary for 15 years. I spend the last six years as News Director for KLOA/KRAJ in Ridgecrest. I co-hosted with Eric Kauffman on the morning show from 6AM to 9AM.

Comments: I enjoyed browsing through the site. It brought back memories. I arrived in March 1947, and graduated from the 8th grade in Ridgecrest. We had our ceremoney in the old County Building (USO). I graduated from BHS in 1951, the campus is now Murray School.

We were one of the first families to move to NOTS. Our school was in one of the Navy's quantset huts. Our drinking water was from the scuttle-butts place all around. Inyokern was the big city, it was nine miles from the front gate. Several years ago, I was in the company of Frank St.George, Max Harris and Jim Cox. At that time, I gave all of pictures to them. I was sure that the Texas dumps would not appreciate them. Although I have not been back in several years, it certainly has changed a lot. I still consider China Lake as one of my home towns.
