I was born in Tehachapi in 1962 to be adopted by a wonderful family Earle and Norma Jean Kirkbride who brought me to China Lake to live for the next 12 years before we moved east. We started in base housing on Leyte Road and then moved to N. Sanders Street about 1966 or so. I attended Las Flores Elementary School through the 3rd grade. We moved to Washington DC when my father got a promotion. I was blessed to have a great father who was one of the NOTS Originals. He and his "crew" consisting of Al Christman, John Sennett (SP) and Byron Butler did alot of camping and took lots of pictures. Al. Christman had a post card business and my sister and I were in several of his post cards. I remember going out to his property on the hill outside Ridgecrest to see his Burro or pick up building supplies from Harold Hockets. I have nothing but the greatest and fondest memories of Ridgecrest and the great place it was/ is. I'm planning a trip this summer to take my family there to show them where I grew up. I have been back several times and the place never seems to amaze me. This is a great site, thank you for the memories.

I was born in Ridgecrest, CA in August, 1954 one of at least 6 Susan Millers in the area, lol. Was great to stumble upon your page, it triggered many memories of my early years. I remember lining up to get the polio shots, and my doctor was Dr. Drummond. Went to James Monroe and my address was 301 Roberson Road. I am looking for information on my father, Frank N. Miller, and electrician (civilian) at the base and my mom Mary Miller who I believe worked at Papalardo's. My dad would have hung out at the Hideaway and in those days kids could come into the bar. I loved hanging out with the grownups, watching the Hamm's Bear Sign and eating picked eggs. Unfortunately someone would eventually get in a disagreement and it was time to go home, lol. And didn't there used to be a Chinese restaurant in town that had wonderful almond cookies!  Thanks for the site :)
