Comments: I love your site, what a blast from the past! lived the first ten years of my life in Ridgecrest/China Lake. I was there from 1967 to 1977 but my extended family remained so I visited often. Oddly just had a dream of the drive-through dairy the other night. Funny that you have a picture of it. Would love to see these in higher resolution. Our family lived close to Grant's on Alene Street. I saw the picture of Champ's Market but for some reason have a memory of that being in a Quonset hut. Am I getting that confused with another market? Also a big one for us was Blounts' Shoe Store, those golden eggs. My aunt worked at Miracle of Charm salon by KLOA station for years. I loved visiting and getting my hair done.

Comments: I was stationed at the China Lake Naval Air Facility from 1967 to 1970. Coming from New York City, one of the largest cities on the world, I thought I stepped back into my childhood when I watched cowboy western movies on my black and white TV. I passed through Inyokern many times on weekends when I was off duty and went to Los Angeles to visit friends and family. Forty five years have passed, I often wonder if I'd recognize the town now. Best of health and happiness to all the residents of Inyokern.

Comments: I noticed that Mike Leming mentioned Opal Goode in his current article in the December News Letter. At 106 years of age, she's still 26 years older than me (ha). Opal is and was a wonderful person, she has been good for Ridgecrest and China Lake; the community needs to be aware of it.
Open letter to Opal Goode........
You helped me start my first bank account, at the Bank of America; at the corner of Richmond Rd. and the main drag approach of Officer's Hill. As my bank teller and friend, while I transitioned from grade school in the quanset huts to the (fairly new) Burroughs High School in 1948, you were indeed a grand lady. You were quick to help out in the community when and where you could; School functions, DeMolay, Rainbow Girls, O.E.S. come to mind. In 1951, you handed me $2,000 from my saving account and I bought a new Ford. It was my H/S graduation present to myself. I was one happy kid. I just wanted you to know that as young children at China Lake, my other friends and I really appreciated you. God Bless !!!
