This is a great site. I just happened upon it searching for something else. I have such great memories of Ridgecrest and being a kid there. My great-grandfather started a trailer park in the 1950's, (Shady Lane Trailer Park on Haloid Street). It was in my family until the early 80's. Browsing through this brought back some great memories.

Comments: I posted on this site just alittle while ago...just wanted to say, How could I have forgotten John's Pizza!!!! The first place I had ever seen square cut pizza slices. I was also remembering how my youngest sister could not say Inyokern, so she called it Indian Corn. Plus the harrowing experience's of flying into & out of Inyokern Airport/ dragstrip. It's funny how when you start thinking back about some where the memories flood back and you realize just how much you remember after all. I raise Dobermans and My first was from Ridgecrest sure miss that pup. Don't miss the creepy strange alien bugs...vinigaroons. Kind of like school cafeteria food and how when you smell it again...your right back in 3rd grade! I'm sure many more memories will certainly invade my brain and I will be back at least for the memories of others as well! Thank you for this site!

Comments: I was amazed when I moved to Ridgecrest in 79. Being from a small town in Texas it suddenly seemed much larger in comparison. I have fond memories of my time in the desert. I gave birth to my first born at Ridgecrest Co. Hospital. I remember Dr. Graves was my OB/GYN and delivered my son. I always thought it was odd...his name and that he was also the coroner. He told me once it was his privilege to bring them in and take them out. I also fondly remember Dr. Pinto. I remember fun parties in the desert sitting on the rocks by the big bon fire looking down at a slight angle at the Ridgecrest lights. I thought there were so many more stars than I had ever realized. I waited tables at an Italian place on the "Main Road"(right down from Carl's Jr.) and I worked at a Deli (close to the bank) that was a traditional deli and then became a Mediterranean type deli, the grape leaves and the lamb were fantastic. After work I would go with a few people that I worked with and we would hang out and talk at one of the two parks in Ridgecrest before heading to our respective homes I remember living out in the area on S. Garth. It seemed so very rural, I am sure it is somewhat developed now, Loved it. We had really good neighbors. Before living there we lived off of Ridgecrest Blvd. in a mobile home park (we were just kids out of school). I remember all three plants in Trona and I remember going swimming there. It was so hot, the water was great. I never understood why Ridgecrest had a drive-in movie but Trona had an indoor (air conditioned) movie theater. I saw so many cult classic horror films at that drive up, it was a blast! I only remember seeing one film in Trona...Arthur (I think) with Dudley Moore. We considered buying a home in Trona...well he did. I couldn't get over all the houses there were cinder block or concrete. We never got the chance to buy any home in Ridgecrest or Trona, the natural gas de-regulation happened and Kerr McGee said bye to so many employees. I really miss Kennedy Meadows, Lake Isabella also provided alot of great memories. If anyone can help, I can't remember the name of this lodge "like" steak house type restaurant that was up in the mountains, It was only one little old guy there and he cooked, served and did it all ( as I remember). It may have been up Sonora Pass way? The elevation was high and the road way hell in the winter, I can remember watching the snow fall as a deer ran by while eating a terrific meal by a fireplace. Anybody have any Idea? Well the recollections have been nice and good for the soul! Thanks to the upper desert and all the memories!

This is an interesting website and I'm glad it exists. Although I have not lived in Ridgecrest since 1982 I have many fond memories and reference my growing up in the high desert of California. I often run across people who have lived and worked at China Lake NWC or are familiar with the Navy operations there. R/C is definately a great place and I miss it, the weather, climate, High Seirras, and open spaces. Nothing like a desert thunder storm!! I can still smell the creosote bushes.
