Comments: My father, Frank C. Breitenstein, moved to NOTS in 1943 with the Navy. He moved our family there in Oct. 1945. I was in the first BHS class of 1946. I have the 1946 BHS annual and lots of photos. I also have a "Burroughs Blockbuster" newsletter, Vol. 1, No. 13, dated May 30, 1946. I was away for 7 years in the Navy and 5 years in college (BYU and UCLA), but worked at NOTS during summers and full time from 1959 to 1968 when I moved to the NUWC at Kaneohe, Hawaii. My brothers, Richard and Eugene, and their families still live in Ridgecrest.
Note for Valyrie Gillespie of previous entry. I have one "Rocketeer" dated Jan. 26, 1962, telling about the big snow storm. I also found a clipping (date unknown) called "NOTS in Review" subtitled "Women at Work" by Phillys Wair. It is about Dr. Marguerite M. Rogers. It has a photo of Peggy Rogers.

What a super site! Was looking for history secrets in and around the Kern River Valley as I am doing some of the stories for the Whiskey Flat Minor for their celebration this year. I am a past Honorary Mayor, Better Times Barbara 1983 and Kernville is my ROOTS. Have lived there off and on since about 1947. Always return for visiting, camping and playing. My cousin, Pat McPherson, and myself wrote and published a book just last year about growing up in Old Kernville before the dam went in and everything was flooded out. You can check it out at www.riverchildren.net . I am very glad I found your great HIGH DESERT MEMORIES...I am sure I will use it a lot for memories, ideas and info. Thank You!!!

Are you willing to help with pictures? Gave my early photo's to my son.
Are you willing to help with stories? I do best when chewing the fat, rather then writing it down.
Comments: I think this is really a great site. Kudo's go to the people that have devoted time into putting it together, keeping it going. I graduated class of 1953, Iva Jeane Luth.
