My mom and dad met through mutual friends on the desert. He was prospecting for gold (yes, really) and she was visiting friends from back east. I was born in Red Mountain, in Dr. Drummond's one-bed hospital in 1944. We lived in Randsburg, then Ridgecrest, and then my dad got a job on the base when I was 6, so I went from 1st grade through high school there. I have lots of stories! This site is like, well, water on the desert to me. The few times I've been back to the desert I feel like I'm truly coming home. I've lost touch with Yvonne (Heynen) Byers, who was involved in organizing the class of '62 reunions for a long time. I'd really love to hear what's in the works for the future and I'd appreciate hearing from anyone from home. Thank you so much for putting this all together!

I went to school at Murray Middle School , Burroughs High School. My best friend was D'Laine Brannan. We hung around with Wendi Matthews, Suzi Guzman, Tracie Adams, Peanut Guzman, Teri Byrd, etc.. And Cheyenne was my boyfriend for 3 yrs. Until My parents split up and my Mom made me leave too. I cried and cried.. Thirty years later, strange little tidbits about Ridgecrest, Ca, Burroughs HS, the desert have been coming up on my computer, as though there's a reason i just can't quite understand, but a HUGE sense of loss, and the longing for my desert are over-whelming. I got an email from Reunion.com. Nothing unusual, i usually delete those, but i couldn't. I saw the name Clint Allen (cheyenne) and I freaked! well to make a long story a little shorter, I read his profile, and come to find out he has been wondering about me and how i've been. WOW!!! Well i googled, and searched to no avail, but I found D'Laine Brannan !! 30 YEARS!!!! we talked on the phone for nearly 4 hrs and still didn't want to hang up! we are never going to loose each other ever again and are planning a trip back to our beautiful desert!!! It's funny how people don't 'get it' when you try explaining the wonderment and beauty our desert fills our hearts with. I love it like no other place on this earth. I just hope no one is ever allowed to destroy it! If you are not one of who have respect and love for our desert as we do then GET THE HELL OUT OF OUR HEAVEN ON EARTH AND NEVER EVER COME BACK!! Sorry, had to vent a little.. SunShineNonU! kathy cox..

Looking through the "guestbook" I saw entries from a lot of old friends and acquaintances (Nancy Miller Guy, Stan Caine, Mark Tracey) and realized that, even though I was 37 when I got to Ridgecrest, it's the place I finally grew up. That and the fact that outside of CLOTA I had no life.
