I was so suprized, and proud to see the picture of my Dad writing the ticket to a jackrabbit. He never told us kids that story. I'm afraid he can't now, and he passed 3 yrs ago. But I bet it would have been a good one. :)
I was born at the base hospital back in Nov. 1946. My Dad was on the Security Police at the base. Not sure for how many years. I believe by looking at some of the pictures on the website, and a couple that I have we must have lived in some of base housing.
Anyway, great site. and keep up the good work. I'll pass on what pictures I have in a day or two.
Jim

This site is like many, many sites with the same history of small desert communities that I have lived and visited over the years.  The people's names and faces change, but every town has its characters.  You can visit the web with sites of towns like Mojave, Twenty-Nine Palms, Yucca Valley, Lancaster and Palmdale California as well as Yuma, AZ and Alamogordo, NM and find just about the same info.  What is different are the personnal stories and memories of each of the current and past residents have.  That is what is special and what makes the difference!  I was born in Lancaster from parents that were Air Force brats from nearby Edwards AFB (once Muroc AAF).  Visiting family in Ridgecrest, Yucca Valley, Yuma and Alamogordo, I fell in love with the desert and its beauty.  Raised and schooled in the LA area, I always looked forward to visiting the nearby desert HI and LOW!   The HI with its winter snow and all its spring flurry as well as the LOW with its winter Summer and beautiful date and citrus farms.  Entering the Air Force in the early 80's and being sent to my first duty station of Nellis AFB, Las Vegas NV I found that the inner continentel desert to be lot more warmer as well as not as beautiful as the Mojave!  Now retired from the Air Force, working for the Air Force as a civilian and living/owning my own home in Germany, I miss the spring mornings as well as a summer sunset in the Hi Mojave.  As searching for a retirement home in all the above formentioned communities, Ridgecrest will stick out as a possible future location!  Ridgecrest is the small town American desert town you always read about or see in movies.  RC'ens may not know how good they have it.  Good luck to you all and your future endevors!  This is a great site!

I was born in the base dispensary May of 47, It cost my folks $7.00.

What a wonderful, protected place to grow up.

One of my first memories is watching the sand blow under the door of out pre-fab. There was always a pile of sand just inside the door.

I remember 10 cent movies, 5 cent Cokes and swimming at Trona and "Dirty Sox".
